About the scheme
In order to administer The Installer Registration Card Scheme, your order will be processed by The Installation Assurance Authority (“The IAA”). The IAA is a company registered in England and Wales under company number 12483858, whose registered office is Unit 3 Ouzel Industrial Estate, Grovebury Road, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, LU7 4ER.
The Installer Registration Card is an industry-recognised registration scheme for individuals working in the home improvement and energy efficiency retrofit sectors.
Scheme aims
The scheme aims to verify the skills and competence of individuals, rather than companies, by allowing technicians to prove their capabilities and provide homeowners with confidence.
The Installer Registration Scheme aims to provide the following benefits:
- Interactive online service, updated in real time.
- Individual workers can prove that they have the skills and qualifications to undertake work.
- Provides homeowners with confidence that the person working on their home has the relevant skills and is who they say they are.
Current features of the card scheme include:
- Direct messaging to card holders.
- Enables employees to keep track of their qualifications.
- Provides career paths for progression.
- Enables employers to verify that individuals are actually employed by them, helping to reduce fraud.
Who can apply for an Installer Registration Card?
Anybody working in the home improvement and energy efficiency retrofit sectors, such as insulation, solar panels and heat pumps, can apply for an Installer Registration Card.
You do not have to be employed to apply for a card; you could be self-employed, a contract worker or unemployed.
Validity
- Applicants must be aged 16 or older.
- Applicants will need to supply proof that they hold the qualifications which they are applying to add to the Installer Registration Card.
- The card is valid for three years and is renewable upon application.

Identity verification
In order to verify your identity, your personal data will be verified by Teemo Technology Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 12392069, whose registered address is Crown House, 27 Old Gloucester Street, London, United Kingdom, WC1N 3AX. Teemo Technology Ltd, trading as ComplyCube, is a certified identity service provider listed on the GOV.UK Digital Verification Services Register. Service details - GOV.UK.
Qualification verification
Qualification verification is undertaken through a variety of methods depending on the qualification and evidence provided. This may include, but is not limited to, API checks with awarding bodies, training providers, employers, and product and system manufacturers and specifiers.
Employers and product specifiers may verify qualifications and professional-development certificates obtained through their own systems using platform access. Manual checks and physical audits may be carried out as part of the verification process where associated evidence is not available.
Where those checks are required, the card user may choose not to have them carried out. The qualification will then be shown as non-verified in the mobile app.
Employer verification
In order to verify your employer(s), your personal data will be passed to the employer(s) which you identify in the application. Employers then have the option to confirm or reject your employment status.
Fees
The costs of the application and renewal are published on our website and may change from time to time.
Updates to qualifications
If a cardholder achieves an additional qualification or skill, they should update their Installer Registration Card through the online application.
Updates to personal details
Card holders must update their personal details through the mobile app, including changes of employer or contractor, address, mobile telephone number and other pertinent information.
How to use your Installer Registration Card to prove your identity and skills
A homeowner or resident can check that a card is valid. This can also be managed by an employer or contractor when designating work.
The digital card holder can present the ID verification QR code shown in the mobile app for the homeowner or resident to verify.

Fraudulent card procedures
If homeowners, residents or employers are presented with a fraudulent Installer Registration Card, they should call the Installer Registrations Card team on 03333 239045 or email carding@theiaa.co.uk.
Applications made without the genuine details of the named card holder, or without the legitimate interest of the named card holder, will be considered fraudulent.
Where we become aware of such practices, we may take steps to prevent or block further applications from the originator and, where appropriate, pass their details to the authorities, including Action Fraud and the Police.
Appeals procedure
If there is a dispute regarding The Installer Registration Card Scheme Requirements, the matter can be appealed. Further information is available in our appeals section.
